38 so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.”
Let us pray that the current crop (and future crops) of men that have already answered (and will answer) God's "call" can faithfully labor and increase across Louisiana! Let's prayerfully imagine a "wave" of priestly vocations that flow from, and out of Louisiana, in spirit and life, consistent with the image at the very top of this page.

ATTENTION! "FATHERS OF FAMILIES"!
All sincere Catholic men/fathers across Louisiana, let's not only pray for an increase in the number of men to join the priesthood but let's also prepare our own young men, at an early age, to seriously consider the vocation of priesthood! Let us pray that "we" faithfully prepare the "spiritual environment" for more vocations!
Many of future priests will be our own sons, grandsons and nephews from within our own families. We must begin, at an early age, to plant the seed of priesthood in their hearts and minds! That is first and foremost how vocations can grow! Not to "force-feed" this vocation to our young men but not to ignore it either!
Let us not be hypocrites while we interpret the "spiritual times" we find ourselves in. Let us be real about the problem! If honestly sought, our Random Acts of Faith, led by the Holy Spirit, will bring forth the proper "spiritual conditions" for more priestly vocations in Louisiana! Let up prepare for, and build, a proper "spiritual environment" to "rain down" vocations upon our Louisiana Church!
In scripture, Jesus gave us a prediction-type principle that we can apply here. He addresses how to expect (or not expect) a certain end result when sought - in the Power of the Holy Spirit!
54 He also said to the crowds, “When you see [a] cloud rising in the west you say immediately that it is going to rain—and so it does;
55 and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south you say that it is going to be hot—and so it is.
56 You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky; why do you not know how to interpret the present time?
As stated above...
Using an example of a physical environment:
No clouds in the west...no rain! No wind blowing from the south...no heat!
Likewise, in a spirtual environment:
Inadequate prayer for vocations...less vocations! Inadequate action to increase vocations...less vocations!
Men! We must ask ourselves honestly. What do we really expect when we look around and sincerely analyze what we are doing to bring forth more vocations. What are we doing, in our homes, in our work places, in our parishes, as Catholic laymen, to really change the "spiritual environment" to produce more vocations? Are we simply looking to others to do our work for us?
Catholic men of Louisiana, let's get serious about bringing forth God's "call" for more vocations. Why are we expecting a greater result when the current prayer and action levels are there to bring forth only a lesser number?
Are we over-delegating responsibility to only our existing priests and vocation directors/offices? You bet we are!
So, let's get out of the "group-think" mode and begin to honestly ask ourselves: What am I going to do about increasing vocations? As an answer: contact your parish priest or your diocesan director of vocations to talk about what you can do - whereever you are planted in Louisiana! Don't rely on another man to do what you should be doing!
The role to provide future priests is first and foremost our responsibility, as Catholic men! It is from our male ranks that future priests will come. Holy Spirit, help us to step up and take on that responsibility of making that "call" be heard across Louisiana, in our young men, in a more profound and greater way!
There is little doubt (and reasonable evidence) that there have been dark forces, from the beginning of Louisiana (at least 1812), working to directly impede and minimize vocations. We pray, St. Joseph, Terror of Demons, Reverse the curse that hinders priestly vocations!
Together, let's move our young men from the deer stands, duck blinds and sports fields on Sundays (all good in their rightful place and order and balance) to matters of faith and service. Instead, see to it that they are seated in the pews for Sunday Mass (with their fathers)! When that happens, vocations will grow and the harvest will be good!
